Dear Premier Minns
Re: Request for you to reinstate Justin Poore to the NSW Police Force, because the decisions you make today will be publicly examined in the future.
For the record.
I am writing to formally request that you reinstate Justin Poore to the New South Wales Police Force.
Mr Poore was dismissed after refusing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, a decision made on the grounds that the NSW Police could not provide him with information regarding its contents, long-term health impacts, or a completed risk assessment.
His dismissal under section 181D, a provision typically applied to officers found guilty of misconduct or corruption, was, in this context, wholly inappropriate. Mr Poore did not break any laws. His decision was based on legitimate medical concerns regarding a vaccine that many now acknowledge has had serious health implications for some individuals.
To illustrate the disparity in treatment, it is worth noting that officers who have engaged in actual criminal conduct remain within the force. Furthermore, the Queensland Supreme Court ruled in February 2024 that the vaccine mandates imposed on police and ambulance personnel were unlawful, adding weight to the argument that such dismissals were unjustified.
It is becoming increasingly clear that the public perception of vaccine mandates is shifting. In time, many will look back on these policies with regret and concern. The decisions made by those in leadership roles today, including yourself, will be publicly examined and judged in that light.
There is no doubt Mr Poore’s dismissal was unreasonable. He is not seeking compensation; he simply wishes to return to the career he dedicated himself to in service of the community.
I urge you to reconsider his case and take steps to ensure that justice, and common sense, prevail.
