Victorian Police Commissioner Shane Patton said he was comfortable with a police officer slapping a handcuffed 11-year-old boy after he spat at her. Patton said the officer “redirected” the boy’s face, but the footage shows it was a retaliatory slap, which is assault.

Police officers have no right to dish out punishment, especially when the offender is a handcuffed 11-year-old child.

 

Patton also issued a stern warning that officers involved in misconduct would be sacked. On that basis, Patton should sack himself for condoning the assault of an 11-year-old boy in handcuffs.   Read article >

 

Justice Matters will campaign for Patton's dismissal and we will explore the possibility of prosecuting the officer for assault because police officers have no right to dish out punishment, especially when the offender is a  handcuffed 11-year-old child.
