Criminal prosecution of NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton

The petition of the undersigned shows:

NACC Commissioner Paul Brereton was found guilty of misconduct during the NACC’s Robodebt investigation because he stayed involved after declaring a conflict of interest, but he was not prosecuted because it was decided that he made a mistake.   After the guilty finding Commissioner Brereton stated publicly that perhaps the most important lesson is that we are not the best person to manage our own conflict of interest.  But that statement is unreasonable.   Commissioner Brereton is a former Supreme Court judge. Therefore, it is unreasonable to believe that he is only now learning how to manage a conflict declaration or that he made a mistake.  Commissioner Brereton should be criminally prosecuted under Section 142.2 of the Commonwealth Criminal Code Act so a jury can decide whether he acted mistakenly or intentionally.

Your petitioners ask that the Senate:

Instructs Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus and Australian Federal Police Commissioner Reece Kershaw to take the steps required to criminally prosecute Commissioner Brereton under Section 142.2 of the Commonwealth Criminal Code Act so a jury can decide whether he acted mistakenly or intentionally.
